DO NOT DOWNLOAD PACKAGES – THINAPP LICENSE EXPIRED – WHEN i GET NEW LICENSE I WILL REBUILD PACKAGES WHICH WILL BE VALID FOR NEXT 365 DAYS.

I found few hours and I made ThinAPP version of vSphere 5.1 client. It is licensed based on NFR (Not For resale) license so feel free to download and use it. Package after unpack has 260 MB – I know it isn’t smallest package ever – but I cut it down by more than 70% – original size was 720MB.

Package was built on Windows 7 x64 and tested on clean Windows 7 x86 and x64 and Windows 2008 R2

Feel free to leave a feedback, comment or request for different vSphere client version using comment under the post.

  1. Download selfextract archive
  2. unpack it
  3. start application – execute VMware vSphere Client.exe file

vSphere 5.1 client build 941893 - ThinApp version – 40MB

vSphere 5.1.1 client build 1064113 - ThinApp version – 47MB

Make sure you have Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework and Internet Explorer installed on workstation before you run thinapped version of vSphere client

  • solgae

vm remote console does not work. Ran it under Windows 7 x64

    • artur_ka

      what’s the error message ?

      • solgae

        VMRC console disconnected…trying to reconnect

        • artur_ka

I tried to reproduce error at home lab, at work and on 3 independent workstations – unsuccessfully

          • Derek

I see the same ‘disconnect’ message as solgae. Looks like C# or another library missing. Your thinapp is only 40MB, whereas the vSphere Labs 5.0 is 250MB.

          • Derek

Ignore the filesize comment, was looking at the 7z by mistake. But still looks like missing library or OCX files with this version. Maybe all your clients you tried it on already had those installed.

          • artur_ka

Hi Derek, you need to have Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework on machine. I did test on clean Win7 installation with .NET installed. Try to install vSphere client and run ThinAPP version after.

          • Johannes

Hi! I have installed the vSphere 5.1 Client on my W7 machine, but get this error again…

            Any solutions?

          • mamazo

I’ve got the same problem on Widows Server 2008 R2, on XP e Windows 8. I need this portable version for a Citrix Xen App 6.5 farm.

          • artur_ka

I will try to reproduce an error and let you know if I succeeded or not

          • mamazo

            Is there something new?

          • artur_ka

nothing new, I tried to reproduce error, without success

This issue was fixed in the latest version of the vsphere client VMware-viclient-all-5.1.0-941893.exe. You might try making the thinapp out of that

          • artur_ka

Thanks for info. I will create a package ASAP.

          • artur_ka

New version is available for download, check it out and let me know if it works for you, thanks

  • Nathan Krick

I get the same “The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect” error that everyone else is reporting. This is on a Windows 7 x64 computer that also has the full vSphere 5.0 & 5.1 clients installed.

    • artur_ka

      Hi Nathan,
Hard to say what is wrong, I have around 100 download a day of the client and only few people complain. Within next few days I will release new version. Will keep you posted

      • artur_ka

New version is available for download, check it out and let me know if it works for you

        • Nathan Krick

The new version seems to work. I was doing my own testing, trying to get a ThinApp installer (.msi) for vSphere Client 5.1 to work and had very similar problems. However, the .exe that I created at the same time (using the same build) works fine. I don’t know why the .exe works and not the .msi, but something is strange.

  • http://wojcieh.net Wojciech Marusiak

Nice stuff Artur. It works fine for me – I tested it on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Windows 7 x64.

    Great job!

    Hi,
Nice Job can u tell me how u can build it with such a small size? I have build my own vSphere Client with 1.8 GB! oO

    • artur_ka

Hi, thanks. I removed unnecessary files such as help files, language versions, installation files from a project folder before APP was package

  • Andrew

The runtime license has expired for the 5.1b version. Any way you could rebuild it with a new license?

    • http://vmwaremine.com/ Artur Krzywdzinski

Yes, in a few weeks time I should get new licences which will be valid for next 12 months

      • Elvis

The runtime license has expired for both the 5.1b and 5.11 version. Any tricks to make it work before you can renew the license?

        • http://vmwaremine.com/ Artur Krzywdzinski

nope, at least I don’t know such trick

  • James

Will you have a versio for the Vsphere 5.1 Webclient?

    • http://vmwaremine.com/ Artur Krzywdzinski

vSphere Web client is an application which has to run as a service on server, has to be registered in SSO instance so I wouldn’t try to virtualized. But you can have thinapp version of Web browser such as Firefox or Chrome

  • Laap Saap

Where’s the new version :( They should give you free lifetime license for this
