Cool Tools – visual esxtop

VMware labs released new tool, graphical ESXTOP – awesome tool for people which don’t like to use command line tools. Tools runs on both Windows and Linux operating systems

Features:

  1. Live connection to ESX host or vCenter Server
  2. Flexible way of batch output
  3. Load batch output and replay them
  4. Multiple windows to display different data at the same time

Instruction

  • Download package
  • make sure that Java is in the PATH

  • visualEsxtop.sh (linux) or visualEsxtop.bat
  • specify ESX(i) host or vCenter server and host, is possible to connect to ESX(i) through vCenter server

  • When tool gets connected to esx server there are tabs CPU, MEMORY, NETWORK, Chart  etc
  • From right click menu is possible to specify metrics which you want to be displayed

  • Nice feature is in first tab – chart,

  • Problem is when you have to make graphs for particular virtual machine, there a only virtual worlds IS listed, so 🙂 use classic ESXTOP to identify virtual machine

Back site, tool generates quite big amount of log files so make sure you have enough space to run tool
