Nutanix Community Edition – invitation codes available !!!

Shares

Few weeks ago Nutanix announced beta tests for Nutanix Community Edition. Since .NEXT announcement Nutanix Community Edition is available for everyone and it is free. If you would like to get started I have several invitation codes which you can use it during registration process and get access to Nutanix Community Edition immediately. If you are interested to get code:

  • post comment below and write why would you like to give test drive for NutanixCE
  • share this post or any other post from my blog (twitter, linked, Facebook, G+ or any other social media)

Nutanix Community Edition is the best way to start with Nutanix platform. It is  fully functional product with Prism and Acropolis KVM hypervisor with almost all features that paid version has. You can test and enjoy features like:

  • De-duplication
  • Shadow Cloning
  • Acropolis Hypervisor (all VM operations like start, stop, clone, create, high availability, live migration and more)
  • Analytics
  • Full API framework for development
  • Asynchronous DR
  • Compression
  • Erasure Coding

However some of the features like synchronous replication or Prism Central are not available in Nutanix Community Edition. Read documentation for moree details.

The only limitation I’m aware of is maximum cluster size which is limited to 4 nodes.

Minimal Hardware requirements:

  • CPU – Intel CPUs, 4-cores minimum, with VT-x support
  • Memory – 16GB RAM minimum
  • Storage Subsystem – LSI controller (HBA, JBOD or RAID 0 mode) or AHCI storage sub-systems
  • Hot Tier (SSD) – Single 200GB minimum SSD
  • Cold Tier (HDD) Single additional 500GB minimum device
  • Networking – Intel NICs recommended
  • Boot Device  – 8GB minimum, USB3.0 media recommended

Below some examples for compatible hardware:

SuperMicro SuperServer 1018D-73MTF

  • CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1220v3 3.1GHz
  • RAM: 32GB DDR3
  • SSD: Seagate Pulsar.2 Enterprise SAS SSD – 200GB
  • HDD: Seagate Constellation.2 SATA 6Gb/s 7.2K RPM 64M – 500GB
  • NIC: Intel I210AT – Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN

Dell PowerEdge R220

  • CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1220v3 3.1GHz
  • RAM: 32GB DDR3
  • SSD: Kingston SSDNow E50 – 480GB
  • HDD: 7.2k RPM SATA 3Gbps 2.5in – 1TB
  • NIC: On-Board LOM 1GBE (LAN on Motherboard)

More info  you can find when will you get access to bits and Nutanix Community Edition.
