Missing network applet in Windows 2008 and Linux after clone

After clone of Windows 2008 (regardless of the version), LAN applet is missing in a network configuration panel

Windows

To solve that problem execute below command from command line and reboot server. Command will delete old registry keys remains from cloned VM.

reg delete “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network” /v Config /f

After restart new LAN configuration applet will appear in Network configuration window.

Linux Ubuntu

This is a common known error under Linux Ubuntu system when after clone, on new VM network card is missing, it’s easy to fix edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and remove all non commented lines, reboot appliance and eth0 will appear
