One of the coolest features in vSphere 5.1 is enhanced vMotion. Enhanced vMotion is in fact combination of standard vMotion and storage vMotion in one process. Sounds good but someone can ask what’s the advantage ? Well, one can migrate live VM between ESXi hosts without shared storage. Is this cool 🙂 or what ?
[box type=”warning”] Note: enhanced vMotion is available only in vSphere Web client, standard vSphere client does not support enhanced vMotion[/box]
Requirements:
- ESXi servers must be managed by the same vCenter server
- ESXi servers has to be connected to the same Layer 2 network
- ESXi servers has to be within the same datacenter object in vCenter server directory
- vSphere Web client must be installed and configured
In below gallery you can find a screens from enhanced vMotion process using vSphere Web client.
